About my future

When I was little some people asked me: what do you want to be in your future? And my answers were I want to be a person who help others like a nurse, doctor or a dentist. When we were kids, we used to think that everything it would be easy and sometimes we could had thought in been a great professional. For example the majority answers by children is: I want to be a firefighter, a Kitchener, astronaut or a police. In my case, I did not know what I wanted, I had a clear idea:  I want to study something about health. 

Then, when I was in school I used to though in some serious major, because everybody asked me. But, in that time I don’t had any idea about what study.

When I was in high school, everything changed for me, because I had to choose a career and I had some ideas but after in the final two years I though like veterinary, dentistry, psychology, medicine or business administration. But I had not chosen one.

But one day, thinking about the skill my hands have; in what I like health, body and help people, I chose dentistry.

Now I have three years of career, and I love what I do as: work with children and adults who need my help, care the oral health and teach about the hygiene habits. Also,  I like to create, design and use instruments. 

 One of the biggest goals I have for my future is to graduate, for me it is a great achievement because this is not an easy major. And it needs hard work, dedication, stress control and the most importantly, is necessary to have love for what you do.

My plans are: work on my own dental clinic, at the beginning this would be difficult because it requires about ₡10 million between the equipment, materials and dental chair; this is a big challenge because it is a lot of money.

 Among others, I would like to work with mobile chair where I can go to different places of the country to work and make dental fairs.

My sister is a dentist and we have great idea to work together and have our own dental clinic.

After, I want to study endodontic that is extract the tooth nerve per cavities, fractures among other reasons. This major really attracts my attention because it required precision and make everything carefully. And sometimes it could be difficult because many tooth are different and they have different form.

If I study endodontic I can work in many different clinics because, general doctors don’t do dental endodontic, so they need a specialist for their patients. I really like this because I could work in different places in the country.

In the other hand, I want to travel to a dental congress where exhibitors talk about news or innovative things. Because this is something that all dentists need to be updated because many things change over time; as materials, instruments, tools and techniques.

In Costa Rica many people say that there is no jobs for a dentist, this it is probably true but not impossible. I remember the first time when I come to the university; Director of dental clinic in the university, said the same : there isn´t job, but everything is on the person in change, or  making something new, so you can have a good job. She refers to be different from others.
